Context
Zenni Optical sells prescription eyewear online, where every order is a configured product — frame, lens type, prescription, coatings. Object Edge rebuilt the storefront as a headless commerce application, and I led the backend services.
What I did
- Led the backend microservices for Cart, Login and Order History.
- Developed a product-configuration engine for customised eyewear, turning frame, lens and prescription choices into valid, priceable products.
- Built headless commerce features with Commercetools, GraphQL, Node.js, React and Next.js.
- Implemented event-driven automation with AWS Lambda and EventBridge for transactional and operational workflows.
Why it was interesting
Configurable products stress a commerce model far more than simple SKUs: validation rules, pricing and cart state all depend on the combination the customer chooses. A configuration engine has to own those rules in one place so the storefront and the services stay consistent.
